Natural Stone Walkway & Granite Entry in Groton, MA

There’s something about a well-built entrance that sets the tone before you ever step inside.

For this project in Groton, the goal was simple, create a natural stone walkway and granite entry that feels grounded, timeless, and connected to the home.

We started with a large-format sawn boulder walkway, using locally sourced stone cut and placed to create a path that feels less installed and more discovered. The scale of the stone gives it weight. The irregularity gives it movement—something you don’t get from traditional paver walkways.

At the top of the walk, custom live edge granite steps lead directly into the new mudroom addition, anchoring the entry with a sense of permanence. That same material continues as the steps tie into the existing deck, creating a seamless transition between spaces.

Nothing forced. Everything connected.

Like many New England homes, the bulkhead presented a challenge. Water naturally collects in this area, so we integrated a clean channel drain system to manage runoff and protect the foundation long term. It’s a small detail, but critical for both performance and longevity.

To complete the space, we added a simple foundation planting, softening the edges and allowing the natural stone to settle into its surroundings without distraction.

This custom walkway and granite step installation in Groton, MA came together in about a week.

But more than anything, it’s an entrance that feels like it belongs here.

Not placed on the land.
Part of it.

Rooted in nature. Set in stone.
